Last night, Versus was showing the NY Rangers at the NJ Devils. So how did this clash of teams with three word names pan out? Read on...
This game was more exciting than I expected it to be. The score stayed pretty even, until the Rangers scored their third goal and held on to win 3-2, despite an exciting last minute onslaught of the empty-netted Devils.
As far as fights, nothing too noteworthy. This was more of a back and forth, who's gonna drop first sort of game. It was like watching two heavyweights slug it out.
One thing I did notice was the Pierre McGuire effect, to coin a phrase. The broadcasters, in an attempt to remain unbias, fellated the Ranger's 'veteran moves' for wasting time on an icing to allow their players to rest. Henrik Lunqvist, Chris Drury, Vaclav 'Vinny' Prospal, and Lundqvist again were all praised for their 'Veteran Moves.' Blah. I realize they're trying to appearl to the casual hockey fan, but I dont think even they would need to hear it every time, let alone the fact that the Devils and Rangers won't make a game the casual fan notice.
However, if you did catch this game, it was worth the time, a good exciting game of fast-paced hockey. And more relevant for me, because I get to scout the Atlantic Division a little more.
