Preview: Penguins at Senators

The Penguins return to the road, this time traveling to Scotiabank Place to take on the mediocre Senators

Opponent Notes
The Senators will be going into the game sitting in 10th in the east, one ahead of the Bruins. However, this team is also playing significantly better offensively than the Bruins. Although Jason Spezza is playing very averagely (perhaps due to injuries), Daniel Alfredsson and Mike Fischer have been playing splendidly, and recently acquired Milan Michalek is playing pretty well, too.

Defensively, the Senators have looked very human. It won't help matters that Anton Volchenkov, on of the Sens' top defensmen, will be out for tonights game with a elbow injury.

It stands to reason that tonights starting goaltender would be Pascal Leclaire who, after being traded at last years deadline has performed adequately for the Senators. Brian Elliot is always an option, but it just doesn't seem advisable to start a young goaltender against a dangerous team like the Penguins.

However, the Penguins may be losing Mark Eaton, the last of their opening day defensmen left. He left a practice early this week, and while on the trip with the team, his status is unknown. Max Talbot should be returning for this game, and Sergei Gonchar targeted this game for his return as well.

This game will all come down to the Penguins and whether or not injuries will finally catch up with them. It's a very winable game, but it'll be just as easy to lose.
