The day is finally here

Well, after my break I'm (hopefully) refreshed, and ready to talk hockey all summer long! For those who think that right now is the time of the year when the only thing of any interest involves a wood stick, a ball, and steroids... well you're missing out of some of the most exciting times in hockey!

Okay, so it's probbaly not as much excitement as the playoffs, or the trade deadline, but here at TH, the NHL Draft marks two things: 1) We get to see which #1 pick gets to go to try and revive Edmonton, and 2) We're practically at the 1st anniversary of TH!

Last year, I compared last year's first round pick to Jaws. Hopefully I can match that level of blogging ineptitude this year!

Anyway, if you've been living under a literal rock this year, the big debate is who Edmonton takes 1st overall. Taylor Hall came into the season as the clear cut option, and has been hyped for the spot for oh, about 3 YEARS.

Then, come Tyler Seguin, flying up the rankings. The two battled it out, but at the end, Tyler was the best.*

*-According the the CSB

Anyway, from what I've been reading around the blogosphere, it sounds like Seguin might be the slightly better player, or at least the more complete player. Hall is much more of a franchise-type player, though. These two have been compared to Ovechkin and Malkin, both potential superstar talents, with Hall being the flashier player, and Seguin being the more complete option.

Edmonton claims they're still undecided, but as a struggling franchise in the rebuilding mode, there's only one option: Taylor Hall. Not only is he hugely hyped, but looks to be an offensive powerhouse in the future. The only reason that I can think of Edmonton taking Seguin is if they wanted to take away the perfect player for the Bruins away from them. And since they're in different conferences, I doubt that'll happen.

Well, that about does it for my triumphant return. I'd try and offer a guess as to who the Penguins will take, but by the time they pick, it's a crapshoot as to who will even be left. Really no one could predict that Simon Despres would fall last season, and maybe that happens again this year. Or maybe the Penguins take a reach on someone.

Anyway, the Draft is at 7pm Eastern tonight on Versus, TSN, and NHL Network. I'll try and put something up here tomorrow about the Penguins pick!
