The Penguins thwarted a late-game comeback by the Hurricanes to win, 3-2 in the shootout.
The Game's Three Stars
1)Cam Ward
2)Evgeni Malkin
3)Ray Whitney
Note: Carolina has lost respect with me for going with homer star picks. Generally the losing goalie isn't the #1 star.
Thoughts on the game
-How about Jarkko's brother's hit on Letang? That's the stuff legends are made of. What a hit
-This was the first game that MA Fleury looked actually human, an even then really only in the 3rd period
-Malkin is getting more and more dominant with each game
-Okay, despite the fact I don't like Cam Ward being named the #1 star, he did put in a hell of a game. This one could easily have been 5-2 or 6-2 if Ray Emery had been in net
-Cam Ward's play when combined with a healthy team could make the 'Canes really dangerous this season
-Speaking of which, is it finally time the Southeast division is gonna stop sucking at hockey?
-Both Staals held off the scoresheet, take that as you will
-This game reminded me of how exciting and unpredictable shootouts are
-Ronnie Francis...what a player and what a coach. Too bad the Penguins didn't keep him around.
-Really think Chad Larose will go back to being quiet when the Hurricanes can get healthy again. Wouldn't go crazy and pick him up in your fantasy league
-Finally, nice job by the Pens, managing to break a 0-5 record in their last 5 games in North Carolina
Enemy of the (Penguins') State: The Hurricanes played a fair game, in my opinion, so my choice for Penguins enemy...The referees. I realize they're just human, but that game was a refereeing travesty. I could count numerous non-calls in the overtime (for both teams) and a number of bad calls and non-calls (again, for both teams) in regulation. The NHL needs to make the Referees attend a seminar or something so they can do their job with more consistency than Alexanre Daige.
