NHL.com recently posted an article about Rick Nash and his thoughts on his team. In this article, Nash is quoted, "I believe in this team, I believe in this franchise and I believe in the ownership and management..." Now, I'll level with you, that's what a team captain should say. But if he believes it, he may be the only one.
The Blue Jackets seem entirely incapable of putting on a solid performance this season. While just two games below .500, pretty much every expected them to be a legitimate contender this season, after reaching the playoffs for the first time in franchise history last season. Unfortunately, the BJs have become the equivalent of the mid 90's Cardinals teams in the NFL. I would have gone with the Lions, but I dont think the BJs are that bad.
Admittedly, there have been plenty of teams that have played well one season and not the next. The Hurricanes are a great example. Of course, the Hurricanes also have a star forward AND a clear-cut #1 goaltender.
Still, I suppose Rick Nash might be able to hoist the Cup if he can suffer through the Jackets tanking a couple seasons to stock up on talent. Wait. They did that. It didn't work.
I don't know Mr. Nash. Best of luck to you, I'll stick with the Penguins.
