Conference Finals Preview and Predictions

I'm going to preface this one by saying that I've not yet checked the scores from last night, so as far as I know, everything is still all even. I'll check the scores after I'm done here.
Anyway, this is where heroes are made. Well, actually the SCF are where heroes are made, but you really have heroes in every round of the playoffs. Anyway, make the jump for this round's predictions and previews

The best place to start is probably recapping my last round predictions.

San Jose-Detroit
What I said I suggested that the key for SJ was to get Dany Heatley and Joe Thornton clicking. Which I couldn't see happening. So I said Detroit in 7.
What actually happened Dany and Joe started clicking, and SJ won in 5

Chicago-Vancouver
What I said Basically that Niemi is crap, and Luongo won't choke if his defense and offense show up, picking Vancouver in 7
What actually happened Niemi showed up and Luongo didn't feel like protecting his net. The 'hawks won in 6

Pittsburgh-Montreal
What I said "Pittsburgh's best chance to win this series will be to score early and often...", and I picked Pittsburgh in 6
What actually happened Pittsburgh didn't score early and often after game 1, and Montreal stole the series in 7

Boston-Philadelphia
What I said I postured about Philadelphia falling into a hole and not being able to dig themselves out because of rust, suggesting that the winner won't get out unscathed. I picked Boston in 5
What actually happened Philly was rusty, alright, and they lost their starting goaltender...then Boston quit playing, and Michael Leighton was proven to be the second coming of Eddie Belfour. Philly won in 7

Geeze...0 for 4 on even picking the series winner. Maybe this round will be better.

#1VS#2
San Jose and Chicago have proven that the West has significantly more accurate seeding than the east. I really feel this is a matchup that could come down to which goaltender is luckier. Both teams have pretty solid defense, and great scoring touch, but Antti Niemi has gotten a bit luckier on his positioning and the way the bounces are going than Evgeni Nabokov.

Prediction: Chicago in 6
#7VS#8
Montreal and Philadelphia are proof that the eastern seeding is a crapshoot. I doubt there've been many times in history where a 7 and 8 seed have met in the conference finals. Still, this one is hot goalie versus hot goalie. Philadelphia has the ability to put them in the net, but Montreal has made a mockery of the #1 seed, then the defending stanley cup champions. Take your pick in this one, guessing the winner is as much a crapshoot as the seeding.

Prediction: Montreal in 7

That's it for the conference finals previews. Be sure to check back wednesday for the next installment of Technically Hockey!
