Friday Pack of Cards

It's Friday, and we're back with another pack of cards! Ain't life great?

Make the jump

Friday Pack o Cards 017
(click for a bigger view)

1)Igor Ulanov - Winnipeg Jets - I never even heard of Ulanov before this year, really. But thanks to an NHL '94 Stanley Cup run with Winnipeg, I know Ulanov was a pretty good checking defensman who could occasionally put one in the net.
2)Don Sweeney - Boston Bruins - Though no Cam Neeley, Don Sweeney is another name that I always remembered from my childhood. He was a real roleplayer, doing what was needed and doing it well. On a side note, That pose kinda hurts to look at.
3)Tie Domi - Winnipeg Jets - Domi really made his name with Toronto, where he did what he did his entire career: Be a dick and still put up some points. In just 49 games in 1992-93, he put up 249 Penalty minutes per game...which breaks down to about 1 fight per game, PIM wise
4)Terry Yake - Hartford Whalers - Terry Yake was one of the best players on the Whalers in 1992-93, putting up 53 points in 66 games, before he was claimed in the expansion draft by the newly formed Mighty Ducks of Anaheim.
5)Grigori Panteleyev - Boston Bruins (Calder Candidate) - Here's just how great Panteleyev was: Hockey DB: No record of the player. Wikipedia: No record of the player. The only record I could find that he played were some autographed cards and that he was leaving the AHL in 1999-2000 to play in the DEL.
6)Kjell Samuelsson - Pittsburgh Penguins - Rather than talking about the defensive defensman, I want to talk about that Jersey for a moment. A lot of people want to see that as the new third jersey. My first jersey was one like that. ANYWAY...this Samuelsson (no relation to Ulf), was a pretty solid defensive defensman. Not much else to say.
7)Gary Leeman - Montreal Canadiens - ...moving on...But seriously, it's kind of interesting that Leeman was drafted by Toronto, traded to Calgary, and then played for Montreal here. Add Vancouver, Winnipeg, and Ottawa and he'd have the whole set!
8)John Blue - Boston Bruins - I always remember John Blue as Andy Moog's backup, and for the most part, that's all he ever was. He only played four seasons in the NHL, though in his first two seasons, he had a 2.95 GAA in 31 games, but never really broke in as a starter.
9)Orest Kindrachuk - Dynasty - Just another bruiser on the Broad Street Bullies.
10)Jim Paek - Pittsburgh Penguins - Jim Paek as this point was already in the NHL Hall of Fame, for being the first Korean-born NHLer. Paek was always one of my more favorite Penguins players growing up, despite the fact he only played one or two seasons for them during the era I was getting into hockey. Once he left Pittsburgh, he never really formed into an NHL level player, and ended up finishing his career in the Minor Leagues
11)Jeff Odgers - San Jose Sharks (Emerald Ice) - Clearly, these were the days when penalty minutes were desired. That's about all Odgers was good for. Was originally signed to the NHL as a free agent.
12)Zdeno Ciger - Edmonton Oilers - Nothing much here. His last name looks like Cigar, and he has a funny face. Was always pretty useful in NHL games, though.

Well, that's it for this week of cards. Be sure to check back for your SCP round 3 preview sometime soon!
