Backups

Of what I've seen about the Penguins recently, they are playing a LOT of games against backup goaltenders. So what's the deal?

Going back to the game against the Montreal Canadians(11-25-09) up until today (12-07-09), the Penguins have played seven Games (including tonights). Of these seven, only one was against a defined starting goaltender according to opening night. Incidentally, that one was the second game of the home-and-home against the Rangers. I should note that I don't count Dwayne Rolosson in the group of starters because Garth Snow was probably listed as the starter for the Islanders on opening night.

So, what caused this circumstance? Who knows. But what follows are some possibile reasons.

1) Gary Bettman - Everyone knows that Gary Bettman fixes games! And he does it so Sydney Crysby can win. He probably paid all the teams to play backups against the Penguins, paying players to take care of things when the team wouldn't agree (see Keith Ballard). It all makes sense now! The Stanley Cup was fixed!

2) The Injury Bug - You remember growing up and hearing stories about the injury bug? Well, this season it's a worse epidemic than Piggy flu. Of course, since hockey is Canadian and all, the US government can't be worried about it. They're working on the BCS system still.

3) God is a Penguin's fan - Yeah, that has to be it. It's all supernatural how the Penguins keep winning. God's probably busy some nights, and the arena is so full that a sometimes there's just no room at the inn, as it were. They did get Lemieux, Malkin, and Crosby, after all...

4) Coincidence - Don't read into it too much, things like this just happen every now and then. And it's just hockey...this isn't the DaVinci Code or anything...

That's about all the conspiracy I have in me at the moment. Feel free to add some more in the comments.
